Snake eating a Gecko

30th July 2014

After a busy day photographing Topi, Impala, Waterbuck etc. in Lake Mburo National Park I was just heading to the washroom back at camp when I spotted a small snake on the path. I quickly grabbed my camera and started taking photos...

I didn't know whether it was poisonous or not but it didn't seem aggresive so I cautiously moved closer to try and get a better shot when it suddenly struck out! For a moment I thought it was attacking me but then I noticed it had a young gecko in it's mouth.

I've since identified it as a mildly poisonous Herald Snake (Crotaphopeltis hotamboeia)
