Cicada Emerging

24th July 2014

After a wonderful afternoon spent photographing the chimps I managed to negotiate a night walk in the rain forest that night. I turned up just after dark to find my two guides, were both armed with machine guns! I didn't ask exactly what they were protecting me from but it turned out they were facinated by the insect life and I spent the next couple of hours showing them some of the rain forest night life. The creature that facinated them most was a nymph which crawled out of the ground and up a tree trunk then split open to reveal a beautiful green cicada.
