EBooks are just books you read on an electronic device instead of on paper, using an eReader app.

The world of eBooks is complicated and can be rather confusing, so we have included a list of recommended eReader apps below (they're all free downloads) and lots of information to help explain it all.

Use the Quick Links panel on the right to jump straight to the section you're interested in. If you've already bought a Wildlife of the World ebook and are having any issues, try the troubleshooting section.

Recommended eReader apps for Wildlife of the World books
These are the best eReader apps we were able to find for various different devices. Click on the name of a device for more options, and you can find information about the testing we did here.
Device Best App Notes
Apple iPad/Mac Apple Books The best way to view Wildlife of the World eBooks, everything works perfectly.
Amazon Fire Kindle Reader Everything should display and work well, but the display might be grainy if the memory is low, in which case Google Play Books is better if you have Internet access.
Windows Calibre Everything displays and works correctly, although zooming is a bit clumsy.
Android Kindle Reader Everything should display and work well, but the display might be grainy if the memory is low, in which case Google Play Books is better if you have Internet access..
All Devices Google Play Books Everything displays and works well (except sound) using a browser on any device with Internet access.
Note: Black and white Kindle readers are not suitable for viewing Wildlife of the World eBooks as they're in full colour.
Note: Phones and screens less than 8 inches might require a lot of zooming in and out in order to read everything.

What's special about Wildlife of the World books
There are many different types of eBook and Wildlife of the World eBooks are a bit different from most others because:
  • They have very high quality photos, which means you can zoom in to see the animals in detail.
  • They are in full colour, (but that means you can't read them properly on black and white devices.)
  • They are interactive, which means there are sound clips and links to videos and slideshows, (but watch out... not all eReader apps can handle interactive media.)
  • They have a 'fixed layout' which means you can't change the font size, so on small screens you need to be able to zoom in to read the text. (Not all eReader apps can do this.)

Apple devices for Wildlife of the World books

Apple Books 😊

The Apple Books app is the best way we've found to read Wildlife of the World books. It's a free download that runs on Apple devices such as iPads and Mac computers, and everything works perfectly. The display is excellent and all the interactive media work correctly, including sound clips and video links. It's all is very easy to use, including zooming and the Table of Contents.
If you have an Apple device with a screen bigger than 8 inches, we would definitely recommend using Apple Books rather than any of the other apps we've tested.

Kindle for Apple/IOS 😊

The Kindle Reader app, which is a free download, works well on Apple devices. Everything displays correctly with Table of Contents and using pinch to zoom (though depending on the device's memory it might take a moment to become completely clear). All interactive features work well except sound recordings which don't show at all.

Google Play Books

The books do not display correctly on the Google Play Books app, but if you have Internet access, they work well using Google Play Books through a browser. See more details here.

Amazon eReaders for Wildlife of the World books
Only Amazon Fire devices with plenty of memory are suitable for reading ebooks with high resolution colour images like the Wildlife of the World series, as photos and text can be grainy on devices with low memory. (Black and white Kindle readers are not suitable for books published in colour).

Google Play Books 😊

Once a book is in your Google Play Books library it will be available on an Amazon Fire device by logging into your Google account on the Silk Browser if you have Internet access. The book will display correctly and all the interactive elements work except sound recordings. You need to choose ‘single page layout’ from the display menu and there is a Table of Contents and zooming.

Kindle reader app

The books should display correctly and all the interactive features should work, but on devices with low memory the display might be grainy. It should clear if you zoom in, but if you feel the display is not acceptable please get in touch with us on our contact page here, and we will try and find a way to solve the problem.

Windows devices for Wildlife of the World books

Calibre 😊

This is the best eReader app we've found for Windows devices. It's a free download, everything displays well, including the Table of Contents and all the interactive elements work correctly. Zooming is awkward though, as you have to double-click to open the page in a separate window without links.

Kindle for Windows

The Kindle Reader app, which is a free download, works well on Windows devices. Everything displays correctly and there's a Table of Contents and zooming, but none of the interactive features work. On-line media can still be accessed by scanning the QR codes with another device or using the 'media links' button on the book's webpage which you can find here.

Google Play Books

The books do not display correctly on the Google Play Books app, but if you have Internet access, they work well using Google Play Books through a browser. See more details here.

Android devices for Wildlife of the World books

Kindle for Android 😊

The Kindle Reader app, which is a free download, is the best way to read Wildlife of the World ebooks on Android devices. Everything displays well and all the interactive features work correctly, though it might look a bit grainy on devices with a small memory.

Lea Reader 😊

This is another very good app we've found for Android devices. It's a free download, everything is easy to use and displays well, including zooming and the Table of Contents, and all the interactive elements work correctly. The menus are all in French, but you probably won't need to use them.

Pocketbook Reader 😊

Another free download that works quite well on android devices. Everything displays correctly, zoom and interactive elements are a bit fiddly but work OK and the Table of Contents is available from a menu if you 'long tap' the screen.

Google Play Books 😊

Wildlife of the World books work well on the Google Play Books app for android which is a free download. Everything displays correctly and all the interactive elements work except sound clips. If you have Internet access you can also use Google Play Books through a browser. See more details here.

Google Play Books for Wildlife of the World books

Google Play Books in a browser 😊

Google Play Books is an eReader that can be used on any device that has Internet access. You need a Google account to add the book to your library. If the book was bought through google it will be added automatically, otherwise you can upload it. Once the book is in your library you should be able to read it on any device with Internet access using any browser.
Everything displays correctly and all the interactive elements work except sound clips. You need to choose 'single page layout' from the display menu and there are options for things like Table of Contents, fit-to-screen and horrizontal scrolling.

Google Play Books app

There is also a Google Play Books app which you can download to read books without Internet access. But in our tests this only worked correctly on Android devices (see here.)

Troubleshooting Wildlife of the World ebooks
Because Wildlife of the World books are interactive with very high resolution images, some eReader devices and apps struggle to display them as well as we would like them to.

If you're not happy with the performance of your Wildlife of the World ebook try the advice below, and if none of that helps, please get in touch using the contact information at the end of this section.

I Can't Read the Text

We don't usually recommend devices with a screen that measures less than 8 inches from corner to corner for Wildlife of the World ebooks, because you'll probably have to keep zooming in and out and not all devices allow this.
If the screen is 8 inches or more but the text (and images?) look fuzzy, your device might be struggling to load the high resolution files. If you wait you might find it's just being a bit slow, and it should clear if you zoom in, but if you feel the display is not acceptable please get in touch with us using the links below and we will try to find a solution.

The Sound Recordings Don't Play

Unfortunately the following devices and apps don't support embedded sound: Kindle for Apple/IOS, Google Play Books, Kindle for Windows, and the following apps aren't suitable for viewing Wildlife of the World ebooks at all: Aquile Reader, Cover, Eboox, Moon Reader, AIreader. In these cases I'm afraid the only option is to find another way of playing our ebooks, there are lots of alternatives listed above.
If you're using Apple Books, Calibre, Lea Reader, Kindle for Android or Pocketbook Reader then the sound files should play correctly. Check the sound on your device is working by playing some music or video and if Wildlife of the World is the only one that doesn't play, get in touch with us using the links below.

Interactive Features Don't Work

Unfortunately Kindle for Windows doesn't support interactive features and the following apps aren't suitable for viewing Wildlife of the World ebooks at all: Aquile Reader, Cover, Eboox, Moon Reader, AIreader. In these cases the only option is to find another way of playing our ebooks, there are lots of alternatives listed above.
If you're using Apple Books, Kindle for Apple/IOS, Google Play Books, Calibre, Lea Reader, Kindle for Android or Pocketbook Reader then all interactive features (except possibly sound, see above) should work correctly. Check your Internet is working and if Wildlife of the World interactive links are the only ones that don't work, get in touch with us using the links below.

The Ebook Doesn't Load At All

The following devices aren't suitable for viewing Wildlife of the World ebooks: Black and White eReaders (such as Kindles) and devices with a screen below 8 inches that can't zoom. Also, the following eReader apps can't display Wildlife of the World ebooks correctly: Aquile Reader, Cover, Eboox, Moon Reader, AIreader. If you're using any of these I'm afraid the only solution is to find another way of playing our ebooks from the following list:
Apple Books, Kindle for Apple/IOS, Google Play Books, Calibre, Kindle for Windows, Lea Reader, Kindle for Android or Pocketbook Reader should all load and display Wildlife of the World ebooks correctly. If you find they don't, please get in touch using the links below.

I Have Another Problem

If your problem isn't listed above, or it is but none of our advice helps, then please get in touch by sending an email to info@naturalplanetbooks.com or using our contact form... and we'll do our best to get to the bottom of it.
